Vitamins K2+D3 brings two fat-soluble vitamins together in one softgel. Each has its own authorised claims in the EU and both share one: the maintenance of normal bones. This article explains what each vitamin provides, how to read its units and why we neither add effects together nor describe how they interact.
Vitamin D3: 50 µg, 2000 IU, 1000% NRV
Vitamin D3 is cholecalciferol, the form of vitamin D the body produces in the skin with sunlight and that is also found in some foods. The label declares it in two ways: in micrograms (50 µg) and in international units (2000 IU). The equivalence is fixed: 1 µg is 40 IU. The NRV for vitamin D in the EU is 5 µg, so 50 µg represents 1000%.
That figure stands out and deserves context: EFSA sets the tolerable upper intake level of vitamin D for adults at 100 µg a day. One softgel sits at half that limit. That is why the label says not to combine it with other vitamin D supplements without professional advice.
Vitamin K2: menaquinone, 120 µg, 160% NRV
Vitamin K comes in two families: K1 (phylloquinone, found in green leaves) and K2 (menaquinones, of bacterial origin and present in fermented foods). Vitamins K2+D3 uses menaquinone. The NRV for vitamin K is 75 µg; 120 µg equals 160%. EFSA has not set a tolerable upper intake level for vitamin K, for lack of data showing adverse effects at the doses studied. That does not mean “no limit”: it means the declared amount should be read together with the warnings on the label.
Two claims, not one added up
Both vitamins share a claim about bones. It is tempting to add them together and promise more, but the regulation does not allow it: each sentence is attributed to its nutrient and there is no authorised claim for the combination of K2 and D3. Bodyvibe quotes them separately and does not describe how they interact. What you can read on the label is factual: two vitamins, two amounts, two NRV percentages.
Why in oil and with a meal
Both vitamins are fat-soluble: they dissolve in fat, not in water. That is why the softgel carries them in olive oil and the label says to take one softgel a day with a meal. The shell is bovine gelatine, glycerol and water: this product is not suitable for vegan or vegetarian diets, and we say so on the product page and in the transparency grid of Science and quality.
Who should check first
- People on anticoagulant treatment: the label says to consult a doctor before taking this product.
- Anyone already taking another vitamin D supplement: do not combine without professional advice.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, medication or a medical condition: consult a health professional.
- Adults only. Keep out of reach of young children.
In short
- 1 µg of vitamin D is 40 IU: 50 µg equals 2000 IU and 1000% of the NRV.
- 120 µg of vitamin K2 is 160% of the NRV (75 µg).
- Each vitamin has its own claims; there is none for the combination.
- Bovine gelatine softgel, one a day with a meal.
